The conference held at Maha Bodhi Society of India premises Bodhgaya, India on January 30 – February 01, 2019.

Most Venerable Pelwatte Seewali Thero, said on his delivery speech, that even in this age when women have reached to space they are not getting equal position in the spiritual path to lead a holy life. Keeping the social messages of the Buddha and its role for global peace in mind, propagate Dhamma to this stage. Most Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi raised the burning issue of obstructing the spiritual liberation of women by the narrow conservatism of a few elderly monks and that its a need of the hour that Theravada Buddhism should pave the way for the restoration of the Bhikkhuni Sangha.
The highlighted in this conference, on the crucial issues of domestic violence, economic exploitation, sexual harassment of women and put stress on education and legal protection as essential means to promote the liberation of women. Furthermore, discussed most sensitive issues that if Theravada Buddhism wants to act as a true force for women liberation it must take immediate steps for the restoration of the Bhikkhuni Sangha.
