The Special Sri Lankan Sangha Assembly (GABS) will be held at Tokyo, Japan on December 22 – 24, 2018. All chapters Maha Nayaka Theros in Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan Chief Sangha Nayaka Theros of many countries in the world will be participate this historically event. The Global Assembly of Buddhist Sangha (GABS) organized under the blessings of Most Venerable Banagala Upatissa Thero, the Chief Sangha Nayake of Japan, President of Maha Bodhi Society of Sri Lanka, Founder & Chairman of “Yoshida” Foundation, Chief Incumbent of Aggrasrawaka Maha Viharaya, Chief Incumbent of Sanchi Center in India, and the concept of Most Venerable Thunhitiyawe Dhammaloka Thero, the Founder and Chief Incumbent of Sri Sambuddhaloka Vihara – Japan.

The assembly will be held for the sake of the progress of Sri Lankan nation. Includes of the assembly they mentioned, it is the Lord Buddha’s preaching that the unity of the Bhikkhu order leads to the goodwill of the Bhikkhu society. Sri Lankan inherits a Buddhist culture of more than 2500 years and is affectionately called the Home of Buddhism. Sri Lankan Bhikkhu society has been propagating Buddhism overseas nearly for a century. Sir Anagarika Dharmapala pioneered in the propagation of Buddhism having established the Mahabodhi Society in 1891 and since then the inspired Sri Lankan Buddhist monks have been propagating the word of Lord Buddha in foreign countries.

Considering the great service of the prelates of the past in the face of numerous challenges have learned that it is a timely responsibility of the Bhikkhus throughout the world to get together. The same has been the concern of the chief and deputy prelates and the registrars of the three Buddhist chapters in Sri Lanka. This is the time to build up effective interrelationship among the Sri Lankan Bhikkhus who are propagating Buddhism in separate lands.

The Global Assembly of Buddhist Sangha (GABS) honourly invited to all the Sri Lankan Bhikkhus to take part in the GABS 2018 and be contributed to the betterment of the future Bhikkhu order of Sri Lanka.

The inaugural step was taken on June 17, 2018 at premises of Sri Sambuddhaloka Vihara, Tokyo, Japan. Its main operations office was opened by Most Venerable Banagala Upatissa Thero, the Chief Sangha Nayake of Japan, President of Maha Bodhi Society of Sri Lanka, Founder & Chairman of “Yoshida” Foundation, Chief Incumbent of Aggrasrawaka Maha Viharaya, Chief Incumbent of Sanchi Center in India.

The organizers invite to all overseas Sri Lankan Buddhist monks who spreading Buddhism in overseas are honourly invited to partake in the Global Assembly of Buddhist Sangha – 2018 which mark universal return of the Sri Lankan Bhikkhu order. The theme of this assembly “It is the time for us to purify the soul of the Sri Lankan nation, which saved the life breath of the island nation and open its doors to the world filling it with glory.”

The soul of our island nation has faced tremendous challenges throughout the history yet managed to protect its identity. Eventually it became crippled with the influence of invaders. It’s our intention to bring back the glory of the nation and spread it beyond the horizons opening its doors to the world with the blessing of the Sri Lankan Maha Sangha from throughout the world. This Assembly of Sri Lankan Maha Sangha has been organized in order to achieving the goal of filling our nation back with the forsaken glory of our nation.
