Kandy – Sri Lanka –
The Newly Shrine Room and the Udakukkepa Seema Malakaya construct was started under the patronage and blessings of all chapters Maha Sangha in Sri Lanka at the Sri Salawana Bodhi Maha Viharaya premises in Polgolla nearby the ancient Mahaweli Nadi river, Kandy, Sri Lanka on August 12, 2019. On the same occasion, has given the position of the Buddhist monk of the Srivisakhom to the representative of Phra Dhammakaya Temple.
The ceremony presided over by the Mahanayaka Theros and Foreign Devotees from Thailand and Myanmar, specially Wat Phra Dhammakaya Temple and Dhammakaya Foundation in Royal Thailand.
Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thero – Mahanayaka of the Asgiriya chapter of Siyam Maha Nikaya, Most Venerable Rajakeeya Panditha Niyangoda Vijitha Siri Anunayaka Thero – Anunayaka of the Malwatta chapter of Siyam Maha Nikaya, Most Venerable Aggamaha Panditha Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thero – Supreme Mahanayaka of Amarapura Nikaya, Most Venerable Napana Pemasiri Thero – Mahanayaka of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Nikaya and other sectors Nayaka Theros also participated this grand auspicious ceremony.
Honorable Deshabandu Karu Jayasuriya, MP, the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and Honorable Gamini Jayawickrama Perera, the Minister of Buddhasasana , Sustainable Development and Wild Life in Sri Lanka and other Ministers, Parliamentarians and officials with and large number of devotees were present on these occasions. All Mahanayaka Theros and Ministers also delivered Anushasanas and speeches on the occasion.
The Pirith chanting was followed by an alms giving for Maha Sanga with offering of Pirikara. Merits were bestowed upon the participations in overseas. The day’s itinerary began with the participation of about 300 monks, reminding of the times of the Buddha who advised monks to be confined to monasteries during ‘Vassana’ (rainy) season without wandering for delivery of sermons outdoor. The ‘Pinkama’ concluded with the offering of the Cheevara, invocation of blessings and offer to the Maha Sangha.
The Maha Upasika from Thailand, Ms. Lalitpat Janejob, the Executive Member of the World Alliance of Buddhists (WAB), was lucky to offer Cheevara to Maha Sangha, as the Vishaka with “Mahaliya Paladana” the story of ancient historical era. The “Sambuddha Sasana Vibhushana Vishakabimani Vishwakeerthidharani” title also offered to her from Sri Lanka. Previously, she also got another honoree title from Myanmar.
After the ceremony, she said, “Buddhism is the religion of peace and wisdom. Our goal is to eradication defilements completely. As sons and daughters of the Buddha, it is our duty to make the world a better place by making His words accessible to all humankind. Only when we work together, this mission can be successful. Maha Upasika Visakha is role model for all women. She always supported Buddhism throughout her life. We should follow her footsteps. It is with highest honor that I came to adorn myself with this ornament to replicate the fruit of merit Maha Upasika Visakha once received. I hope this can be an inspiration for all Buddhists to continue practice and support Buddhism.”
